It's Not Easy Eating Green

After moving through the single-grain cereals, it was finally time to introduce food with some color and flavor. First up: Avocado!

She didn't know what to think after the first few bites...

...but the more she ate...

...the more she developed a strong opinion.
You can see for yourself in this video clip.

Looks like we'll be continuing on to sweet potato... :)

Finally...A New Menu

As difficult as it was at times, we resisted temptation and fed Lucy only breast milk for her first six months. By then, she was more than ready to try something new. Up first, rice cereal.

Who's more excited - Stacy or Lucy? :)

Much to our surprise, Lucy ate 3 Tbsp and made very little mess. It appeared as if this transition to solid food was going to be a piece of cake.

"What are you looking at? Can't a girl eat in peace?!"

Unfortunately, that first night was an anomaly. When Lucy eats, not only is she covered in her food, but so are we and everything in a three-foot radius. Rice cereal fell flat, but barley and oatmeal have been winners.

6 Months

It's been half a year already?! At my check-up, I weighed 14 lbs. 1 oz. (15%) and measured about 26 in. long (68%). Mom and Dad were surprised by my weight - they both guessed much higher given their aching backs.

My longest stretch of sleep at this point is 12 hours, although I am not a consistent sleeper. Just when Mom and Dad get used to me sleeping through the night, I like to surprise attack and wake up several times. Mostly I just miss them and want to play!

I am quite the squirmer. In fact, there are very few safe places for Dad and Mom to put me these days. I arch my way out of the Bumbo, slide sideways out of my bouncer and attempt to climb out of the changing table. What can I say, I like to move!

Stranger anxiety is in full effect. It takes me a bit to warm up to anyone besides my parents. But overall, I am still a super happy girl. I love to laugh and squeal. Most recently, I've rediscovered my tongue and enjoy sticking it out.

Still no teeth, but since Aunt Mel told me about having hers pulled, I'm in no rush!

Mom and Dad keep telling me about this thing called Christmas. I guess it's coming right up. I'll share my thoughts about it next month.

Gobble Gobble

We hosted Thanksgiving at our house with Stacy's family again this year. Stacy and Sue did most of the cooking...

...while the men relaxed, watched football...

...and entertained Lucy.

The Thanksgiving menu included:
  • turkey & gravy
  • homemade stuffing
  • mashed potatoes
  • sweet potatoes
  • carrots
  • corn
  • peas
  • cranberry sauce
  • rolls

Although not able to enjoy the meal, Lucy still kept us company

After dinner, we all needed to take a break before the main attraction...

...DESSERT!!!

The dessert menu included:
  • 2 apple pies
  • 2 chocolate cream pies
  • pumpkin pie
  • squash pie
  • custard pie
  • coconut cream pie
  • whoopie pies
  • brownie bites
  • lemon bars
  • banana bread

Everyone agreed, Lucy had the cutest Thanksgiving outfit!

Forever In Blue Jeans

This past summer, Huggies made some limited edition diapers that looked like blue jeans. Every time we saw them in the store, we would make fun of them. Then last month, Stacy was grocery shopping and saw some in the clearance bin for $8. Always a sucker for a deal, she picked up a package. When the cashier rang them up, Stacy realized they were 50% off of $8 - so only $4 for a package of diapers that normally costs $10. Needless to say, Stacy went back and bought the rest of the packages in Lucy's size. Once we had them on her, we had to admit, they were pretty darn cute...or maybe it's just the person wearing them!

Lucy's Sixth Month

Life has been a tad crazy the last month as Stacy has been finishing up the semester so we're quite a bit behind on our posts. Here's a selection of photos from Lucy's sixth month:

Let It Snow?

We had our first snowfall of the season in late October. Fortunately, it was a Sunday and we didn't have anywhere to go because we fired our plow guy at the end of last season and haven't looked for anyone new to do it. Once the snow had stopped and it'd warmed up a bit, we bundled Lucy up in her snowsuit and brought her out onto the deck.

She wasn't sure what to think at first...

...but quickly decided it wasn't too bad!

We see snow forts and sledding in our future!
